Charles Edwards of Baudette, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 84, on June 11th, 2025.
A memorial service will be held on June 23rd, 2025, at 2 PM at the Evangelical Covenant Church in
Baudette, MN. Visitation will be held a hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at St. Clement's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Massey, Maryland in the summer of 2026.
Born at home on the farm on December 23rd, 1940, in Massey, Maryland to Rodney "Pap" and Anna Mae Edwards (Rice). He attended Chesapeake High School in Chesapeake City, Maryland. However, in 1956 he chose or was greatly "encouraged" to quit school and help out on the farm to make ends meet.
He married the love of his life, Linda Stover, on Oct 13th, 1962. Promptly, welcoming their first child the following year.
He held various jobs to support his growing family, some were milking cows, working with racehorses on the DuPont farm, Strawbridge's horse farm, at a battery plant, and as a tractor and implement mechanic at International Harvester.
After visiting friends in International Falls, Minnesota and falling in love with the less populated, lush land, not to mention low price of property Charles and Linda purchased a 160-acre farm in Lake of the Woods County in Minnesota. They packed up all of their belongings and 4 children and moved to Minnesota in 1977.
Charles started working at Marvin Windows and Doors right away as well as the family's own farm. He would commute 50 miles to the factory, work for 8-10 hours, drive home then start the work he truly enjoyed. Through the years he managed livestock, pigs and chickens as well as bailing hay, planting and harvesting buck wheat and winter wheat,
Charles and Linda designed and built their own house by hand. Charles taught himself with the use of some books and trial and error how to do all the framing, wiring, plumbing, sheet rocking and roofing.
Charles' hobbies included coloring Linda's hair when needed, maintaining his own vehicles and farm machinery, restoring classic cars, especially Chevy's, and if he wasn't out in the field or tinkering with a car he could be found digging away in his garden.
Charles retired from Marvin Windows after working for 37 years. Sadly, he lost his love Linda in 2018, after nearly 56 years of marriage. Charles remained busy despite this and his own health problems. He broke his leg in 2023 and was diagnosed with melanoma in 2024, but he was not one who liked to sit around. He cherished updates about his family and would be available at short notice if anyone needed help. Days before his passing he was busy clearing land and preparing his garden on a new property he had purchased.
Charles or as his grandchildren and great grandchildren called him "Pop-pop" will be missed immensely not only by family but friends as well. He will be missed for his knack of sometimes purposeful other times not, of pronouncing words in the wrong way or giving something a new name. He will be missed for his stubborn nature. He will be missed for his denial of love for animals. He will be missed for his sense of humor and always being able to make you laugh. Lastly, he will be missed for the love and support he unconditionally gave to his family. Charlie, Dad, "Pop-pop", Uncle, Brother, Cousin,... we are so happy you are no longer in pain. Give Linda, Mom, "Mom-mom" a hug for us and tell Jesus, "How", or "Hello!" (said in a high-pitched voice). See you soon, "Bye!" (said in a southern tone) for now,
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda (Stover) Edwards; daughter, Amanda Edwards, stillborn daughter; daughter-in-law, Becky "Mistic" Edwards; and great-grandson, Elijah Kroska.
