Charles Danny “Dan” Englebert, 70, passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, May 23, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dan was born August 18, 1953, in Wilkesboro, NC, to Buddy and Frances Englebert. The oldest of four children, he was the quintessential big brother. The family moved to Kernersville in 1959 where Dan lived out the rest of his life. He is proceeded in death by his parents; his brother, Mike Englebert; and brother in law, Larry Williams.
Dan was a 1971 graduate of East Forsyth High School, where he met the love of his life, Janet (Holder). They wed in 1974 and had just celebrated a wonderful 50 years of marriage. They have one son, Adam, for whom Dan was incredibly proud of and loved dearly. Some of his most memorable times were spent with Janet, Adam and his wife, Ashli.
For most of his career in automotive, Dan was a local small business owner. In 1998, along with his brother, Mike, they opened Englebert Tire and Automotive. For 25 years, it was a staple in Kernersville, known to many for honest and quality service.
Dan had several hobbies throughout his life. His love for fast cars, led him to drag racing, where, along with his three siblings, he enjoyed many years of racing from the late 70’s through the early 2000’s. He met many friends during this time, most of who he was still close to today.
In his downtime, he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson and spending weekends with Janet at their 2nd home in Atlantic Beach, NC. Dan had enjoyed the retired life for last three years, mostly at the coast where he and Janet spent time with family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and son, he is survived by his sister, Sandi Williams; brother, Eric Englebert; sister in law, Sandra (Holder) Shropshire; brother in law, Steve Holder (Teresa); and many nieces and nephews.
