Charles Edward Fentress Jr

12/06/1947 – 07/12/2025

A star burned out last week when Chuck Fentress passed at the age of 77. Chuck was survived by his loving daughter, Stacey Tillman Mask and her children, Julia Ann Tillman (Daniel Richardson), Jessica Frances Tillman, Jason Nicholas Mask, and Joren Lane Mask. His younger daughter, Christine Nichole George lives on, while her children, Gage Bradley George and Colton Edward Fentress remained in his care until he passed. Additionally, he was survived by his sister, Cynthia Ann Kramer (Special Agent Jerry W. Kramer, deceased) He was predeceased in death by his parents Charles Edward Fentress Sr and Frances Swindell Fentress, as well as his devoted wife of 53 years, Barbara Ann Fentress. Chuck graduated from Maury High School in 1965 where he played football and baseball. He may have struck out a time or two, but he hit a grand slam when he met mom while playing in a church softball tournament. They were married for five years before having children and stayed together until her death, three years ago. As a father and grandfather, he was an MVP, Most Valuable Parent. He taught his family what true love is, and for several years he took all six grandchildren under his roof, making him feel like a young father again. My daddy loved The Wizard of Oz and elephants, and he started his collection with them. He began his journey with Recovery, as a friend of Bill W., in 1986. For 39 years, he was of service to others along their way to lasting recovery. Chuck retired after a 43 year career with VEPCO/Dominion Power, while he also serviced in the Army National Guard. He spent the remainder of his life with family as well as buying and selling record albums, sports & non-sports cards, comic books, Hot Wheels, and collectibles of all types. Barry Friedman, owner of Birdland Music, said, "Chuck was one of my biggest but definitely one of my best customers. He'd spend many Saturday mornings in the store talking about music, collectables, and his biggest passion – his family". Chuck's love was so vast, it overflowed to provide safety, structure, wisdom, and guidance to his daughters' friends, his grandchildren's friends, and a whole herd of those we have come to call, family.
