Obituary of Charles J. Griffiths
Charles J. Griffiths went home to be with God on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Charles, known to his family and friends as "Chuck", was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 23, 1943. Chuck attended the University of Delaware, graduating with a master's degree in American History, before moving to Vineland, New Jersey to teach.
He was a well loved history teacher at Vineland High School for 42 years, and was also active in local politics, serving as a Vineland city council member and a Cumberland County freeholder, a member of the Affordable Housing Council of NJ and Trustee of the Cumberland County Historical Society of South Jersey.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Buono Griffiths, and his four children: Michael Griffiths of Vineland; Bryan Griffiths of Red Bank and his wife, Amy; Sara Griffiths of Whitehouse Station; and Daniel Griffiths and his wife, Jennifer, of Pitman. Survivors also include his brother, Ted Griffiths, and his five grandchildren, Benjamin, Honora, Charles, Leanna, and Liam - who will always remember him as "Poppy". He is predeceased by his sister, Ruth, and his grandson, Robert.
Charles was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a great lover of literature and reading, a passionate follower of baseball, a lover of golf, and an amazing fountain of knowledge. His words of wisdom will always be remembered by his closest family and friends.
A visitation will be held at DeMarco-Luisi Funeral Home, 2755 S. Lincoln Ave., Vineland on Monday, March 13th from 5pm to 8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Assumption Church, Christ the Redeemer Parish in Atco, New Jersey at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 14th. A visitation will be held in the church one hour prior to the mass at 10 am. Burial will be private.
