Charles "Richard" Helms, 88, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, July 2,2024 with family by his side.
Richard was a beloved father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He's survived by two daughters Diane Critchlow, (Mark-spouse) and Valerie Helms-Breedlove (Mark-spouse), six grandchildren including Josh and Nathan Koontz, Jeff Critchlow, Justin and Amanda Helms, and Koren Helms. Additionally, Richard is survived by twelve great-grandchildren and three sisters including Joy Richardson, Gayle Gedrich, and Freeda Hudson. Richard was preceded in death by his son, Eric Helms, both parents Fred and Bertha Helms, and two brothers Bobby and Jerrell Helms.
Richard achieved success in many aspects of life. Family, building friendships, gardening, and designing, constructing furniture, and building amazing homes throughout Monroe County. He paved the way for Bloomington's zero lot line with Revere's Run housing addition. Richard served as president of Monroe County's Building Association in the late '80's. He was known for stylish custom homes. Richard Helms was the final word in construction. Although Richard was a successful local builder, Richard was most proud of the character, integrity, and dedication to work ethic he instilled in his children. His legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Celebrate Richard's life with his family from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Ellettsville Christian Church, Ellettsville, Indiana on Tuesday, July 9, 3024. A short service and meal is to follow.
