Charles Anderson Houpt, known affectionately to friends and family and all who knew him as Charlie, lived a life marked by an adventurous spirit and a kind soul. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 28, 1994, Charlie grew to be a man who cherished his family, friends, and the many experiences that life had to offer. On July 23, 2024, in Asheville, North Carolina, Charlie's journey came to an unexpected close. We will cherish his memory and be thankful for the time we had to love him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 30, 2024 in the sanctuary of St. Luke Church, with Reverend Thad Haygood officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service in Stockwell Hall.
Charlie's life was filled with the love and guidance of his parents, Brian Houpt and his wife Jennifer Houpt of Atlanta, Georgia, and Katherine Trussell and her husband George Trussell, Jr., of Columbus, Georgia. He shared an unbreakable bond with his brothers, Henry Houpt of Columbus, GA, and John Carlton (JC) Houpt and his wife, Lauren, of Denver, CO. He was the adored grandson of Corinne Houpt of Chapel Hill, NC, Cilla Loyacono and her husband Rush of Pine Mountain, GA, Carol Muratore of Apopka, FL and Mary Boyd Trussell of Columbus, GA. Charlie was a cherished nephew to his aunts and uncles Drs. Eric and Gwennie Kelly Houpt of Charlottesville, VA, Carlton Reed Shaw of Montgomery, AL and Walter and Aline Trussell of Lynn Haven, FL. His life was further enriched by his loving girlfriend, Rossana Bedoya, many devoted great uncles and aunts, cousins, and a wide circle of friends. Charlie was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Dr. Jeffrey Lyle Houpt, Carlton Reed Shaw, George Culver Trussell, and Carl David Watson.
A proud graduate of Columbus High School where he was a member of the CHS Honor Society, various clubs and a four-year basketball player, Charlie went on to earn his BBA from the University of Georgia. A lifelong Georgia Football fan, he loved his time at UGA. As a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, he was active in rush activities and made a long host of lifelong friends as he was able to cheer on his beloved Georgia Bulldogs. Charlie's love of travel was enriched by summers abroad studying at the London School of Economics and learning about Art History and Architecture in Rome, Italy.
Charlie spent his childhood growing up with his brothers in Atlanta and Columbus. He played Peach Little League Baseball, lots of sports at St. Anne Middle School and became an avid and patient fisherman. He relished the times spent fishing, playing baseball and basketball in his youth, and cheering on CHS Basketball, UGA Football, and the excitement of March Madness. Summers were a time of joy and bonding with his brothers on Orcas Island, Washington, and Grayton Beach and Panama City Beach, Florida, where they shared in the delight of fishing and the great outdoors, always trying to outfish one another. Charlie also found happiness in exploring Asheville with Rossana, and embracing the beauty of travel, most recently enjoying a memorable week with Rossana's family in her home country of Colombia.
In his professional life, Charlie brought his warmth and hospitality to the hotel industry, and it took him to beautiful locations like Orcas Island, WA, Wyoming, Savannah, GA and ultimately Asheville, NC. His colleagues will remember him as a dedicated professional who always went the extra mile to ensure guests felt welcome and cared for. Excited to grow his skills, he recently joined the management training program at Sherwin-Williams as he settled into his new life in Asheville with Rossana and his cat Luna who was always by his side.
While his time with us was way too short, Charlie will be fondly remembered for his intelligence and his kindness and for an infectious smile that touched the lives of everyone he met. His family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the many friends and loved ones who were part of his life's journey.

Instantly knew Charlie was a solid guy with a background of loving parents and close family. The morals he displayed every time he was around others were the type we all strive to withhold, such as, engaging with all people with no judgement, a humble and caring persona, charismatic, etc. The memories he left with every person who had the please of knowing him were ones we hold dear to our heart with appreciation of being fortunate enough to know Charlie and smile when we think of his time spent here with us. Life is a beautiful thing and we tend to look past the fact that God would not make that so, and not create afterlife being reconnected with our Father who art in heaven to be far more beautiful than we can imagine!

I used to drive Charlie to and from school during our time together at CHS. We kept in touch over the years from a distance, and I was delighted to see his latest photos posted from a trip with his girlfriend“s family, as he appeared happier and healthier than ever before. The news of his unfortunate passing came as a shock, but I will continue to remember Charlie for his humor, infectious smile, positivity, and compassion. My deepest sympathies go out to his family and close friends.
