A ship at myside spreads her white sails to the morning breezeand starts for the blue ocean. She is an object ofbeauty and strength. I stand and watch her untilat length she hangs like a speck of white cloudjust where the sea and sky come to mingle witheach other. Then someone at my side says:There, she is gone!Gone where?Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as largein mast and hull and spar as she was when she leftmy side and she is just as able to bear the load ofliving freight to her destined part. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. Andjust at the moment when someone at my side says:There, she if gone! There are other eyes watchingher coming, and other voices ready to take up theglad shout: Hear she comes! And that is dying-A 19th Century Funeral Sermon To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Charles, please visit our Tree Store.
