Charles A. Lambert, 86 years old, passed away at 4:27 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born on November 27, 1938 in South Bend and has been a lifelong resident. He was preceded in death by his father, Antone Lambert; mother, Clara (VanDeVoorde) Kurzhal, and his step-father, Elmer Kurzhal. On October 29, 1960 in South Bend, Charles and Pauline Jackey were united in marriage. Pauline preceded him in death on March 21, 2019 after 58 years of marriage.
Charles, known also as Chuck, retired from Local #172 in 2001 after 50 years as a union plumber and pipefitter. He was a faithful member of First Brethren Church in South Bend, and a member of the Moose Lodge and BK Club. He proudly served his country with the United States Army, National Guard, and as a reserve of the Army. Chuck's greatest pleasures in life were cruising around town in his beloved Studebaker, proudly cheering on his Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and spending warm, summer days having pool parties with his family. Known as 'Lil Papa' or 'Grandpa Shortcut', he always had an affinity for his grandchildren, whom he also loved giving a hard time. Chuck Lambert was a hardworking man, who loved unconditionally.
Charles is survived by his three children, Paula (Scott) Kresca of South Bend, Rodney Lambert of South Bend, and Ryan (Gretchen) Lambert of Osceola; five grandchildren, Madison (Hunter) Schuman, Brandon (Emily) Kresca, Blake (Ellen) Kresca, Brooke (Jeremiah) Burke, and Jackson Lambert; and two great grandchildren, Harriet and Nora Kresca. Charles is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Terry (the late Susan) Munger of Lakeville, and Bert Jackey of LaPaz; and his many nieces and nephews whom he deeply loved. He was preceded in death by his four sisters and two brothers, Lorraine VanDeWielle, Eleanor Monahan, Marge Davis, Annette Simmons, Antone "Tony" Lambert and Lucian Lambert.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025 at the Palmer Funeral Home, within the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville. Pastor Fred Youngen will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday.
