Charles Harold Messler of Chesterton, IN passed away in Richardson,Texas on Monday, May 30, 2022. He was 89. He was born in Marion, IN on December 26,1932 to Fred G. Messler and Lona B. (Anderson) Messler.
Charles was a graduate of Marion High School and continued his education graduating from Ball State with a Bachelor of Science in Business Education, Master of Arts in Elementary Education and Administration and a Superintendent's Certificate as well as Advanced Graduate Work at the University of Northern Colorado. He also served in the United States Army.
On May 29, 1958 in Marion, IN he married Mary Houston Rhodes who preceded him in death February 20, 1997. Also preceding him in death are his parents, brother Earl and sisters Margaret, Evelyn, Jackie, Delores (three years old) and Beverly (infant).
Charles was employed with the Grant Count Schools for eight years before beginning his career in administration with the Duneland School Corporation in 1967.
Throughout his life Charles enjoyed golf, water skiing, fishing, boating and other water and outdoor activities, jogging, reading, traveling, crossword puzzles and most of all time with family. He also enjoyed cooking out and was definitely our grill master.
Charles is survived by his daughter Karen Messler, son Michael (Renee) Messler, granddaughters Katherine Vance and Allison Messler, grandson Christian Messler and his devoted partner, Barbara, who we have been blessed to have in our lives.
Visitation for Charles will be held at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN, Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with service immediately following with Reverend Heather Foley officiating. Private burial will take place Friday, July 8, 2022 at Chesterton Cemetery.
Cremation took place at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, TX.
