Charles Edward Mobley, Jr., 84, of Concord, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Charles was born December 20, 1940, in Aberdeen, Mississippi, to the late Charles Edward Mobley, Sr. and the late Etta Mae Gilreath Mobley. He was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Bill Peugh, Charles Poss and Joe Jackson and his nephew Greg Poss.
Charles, in spite of physical disabilities due to polio, attended Mississippi State University earning not only a degree of Bachelor of Science College of Engineering, but also a degree of Master of Science. After spending six years in industry, Charles came to Charlotte to become a member of the faculty of the Department of Engineering Technology, where he was an esteemed professor for thirty-four years. He was a member of Pitts Baptist Church. He will be remembered for inspiring others with “In everything give thanks” (I Thessalonians 5:18). From an early age, he was fascinated with flying and later on in life, he was a member of the Academy of Modern Aeronautics. Most of all, Charles was a loving husband, dad, brother and grandfather. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by family and friends.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Sharon Wills Mobley; son, Charles Douglas (Diane) Mobley; daughter, Janet Mobley (Bill) Ramsey; plus sons, Christopher James (Harriet) Wilson and Thomas Glenn (Autumn) Austin; sisters, Jannette Peugh, Sara Poss and Gloria Jackson; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Monday, September 22, 2025, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Pitts Baptist Church in Concord officiated by Rev. B. Scott Davis. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to UNC Charlotte Foundation, Charles Mobley Scholarship, 9201 University Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28223; or Pitts Baptist Church, 140 Pitts School Road NW, Concord, NC 28027.
