Charles Overman Obituary
Charles Allen Overman, Jr., fondly known to many as Charlie O, Big O, and Big Perm, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, in Long Beach (OKI), NC. Born in Augusta, GA, on August 28, 1942, Charlie lived a fulfilling life of 82 years, leaving behind a legacy of love, friendship, and generosity.
Charlie was the proud owner of Overman Electrical whose motto was "If you can't find your shorts call Charlie", where he worked tirelessly as a self-employed electrician for 35 years. His dedication to his craft was evident in every project he undertook, and he earned the respect and admiration of those who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
In his younger years, Charlie enjoyed the tranquility of fishing. As time went on, he found even greater joy in sharing this passion with his grandsons, creating cherished memories on the water. Above all, Charlie valued spending time with his family and friends, and his home was always open to those he loved.
Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Julia Browning Overman; his grandson and best friend, Jesse Overman, affectionately known as "Little Perm;" an infant grandson, Alan Wyatt Overman, Charles and Ola Overman.
He is survived by his children, Chuck Overman and his wife Kelly, Tony Overman, Charlene Parker and Amy Overman. His legacy continues through his 6 grandchildren-Amber Rose, Travis, TJ, Tana, Isaac and Elise-and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom will remember him with fondness and love. Siblings, Mack Overman and his wife, Brenda, George Overman, Shirley Coble, Dixie Sizemore, and Margaret Faye Thaxton. The family would like to give special thanks to Terry Lamb, Angela Overman, and Dawn Morse who have only been a phone call away, always there when needed and are unique and special women.
Charlie's love extended beyond his own family. He stepped up to the plate when many fatherless young ones came into his life, becoming "PawPaw" to hundreds of kids from Long Beach. His warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Boiling Spring Lakes from 1-3 pm. His family invites all who knew him to remember the joy he brought into their lives and the love he so freely shared.
Charlie O's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His enduring legacy of kindness and generosity will never be forgotten.
