Charles Parker Slone Fairchild, 89, of Carrie, Kentucky, passed away on March 9, 2024, in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born in Pippa Passes, Kentucky on November 13, 1934, Charles grew up and attended public school there and in nearby Wayland, Kentucky. He went on to Georgetown College and Ball State University, earning his Master of Arts degree. He began writing in 1950, both fiction and non-fiction, some plays, and novels. During the late 1950s he volunteered for the Army and served his country while stationed in Germany as a radio operator. He taught English, speech, drama, and creative writing, primarily in Ohio secondary schools, before retiring and devoting himself to writing, living in rural Appalachia near the place where he was born.
Charles was preceded in death by his Parents, Marion and Bertha Slone; Brothers Amos, Arthur, Glen, and Vernon Slone; and Sisters Dixie and Marie Slone.
Charles is survived by his wife of 26 years, Margaret Fairchild; Children- Cephas Slone, Beth Reeder, and MLE Slone; Sister- Betty Slone; Mother of children- Trish Hall; A host grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family and friends may visit Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 11 AM until time of service at 1 PM at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, 125 Parks Branch, Hindman, KY 41822. Burial to follow at Isom Slone Cemetery, Pippa Passes, Kentucky.
