Charles Seyle Obituary

Charles Eugene Seyle, 80, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 13, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia. Chuck, as he was known to all, was born at the Telfair Hospital on June 29, 1945, to Cecil Samuel Seyle and Cleo Elizabeth (Futral) Seyle. Apart from his time at the University of Georgia and while on active duty in the United States Navy, he was a lifelong Savannahian.

One week prior to his passing, Chuck celebrated 56 years of marriage to Ann Adeline (Wessels) Seyle. Chuck was a wonderful Daddy to his three children, Elizabeth (Andrew) Fenton, Adeline (Mark) Glidewell, and Charles, Jr. When he became a grandfather, he took on a new title, Pa, for Mark Harris Glidewell, Jr., Caroline Rose Fenton, Charles Morris Glidewell, and Alexander John Fenton. His family was everything to him. He enthusiastically attended every school program in which his children and grandchildren participated. He often chauffeured grandsons Harris and Charlie between school, lessons, and home, usually stopping somewhere along the way for a snack regardless of proximity to dinner time.

Chuck graduated from Savannah High School in 1963, attended Armstrong State College, and earned his B.S. in Psychology from the University of Georgia in 1967. He then attended the Navy's Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and was commissioned in December 1968. While on active duty, he was stationed at Naval Base San Diego and deployed on the USS Galveston. He retired as a Commander from the Naval Reserve in 1991.

In 1970, after he and Ann moved back to Savannah, he worked at several local banks. Upon earning his real estate license, he joined the development team for a new community called Dutch Island, where the family moved in 1977. Over a more than fifty-year career in real estate, Chuck assisted hundreds of families in finding the home that was just right for them.

Chuck had a remarkable memory for facts and details, and could tell you which family lived in each house at Dutch Island, the names of each family member, and anything unique about the house itself. (That memory also served him well during his nightly Jeopardy viewings). Many of the families he worked with over the years became close family friends of the Seyles, especially those families who moved to Dutch Island in the early 1980s when there were only a dozen or so homes.

He and Ann hosted many gatherings at their beloved family home on the Herb River, including Dutch Island Christmas parties, birthdays, class reunions, and even a wedding (for Beth and Andrew). He loved being around people, and, with his sense of humor and genuinely kind spirit, Chuck made everyone feel at home.

A graveside service will be held at Greenwich Cemetery, 330 Greenwich Road, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Reverend Ben Martin will officiate. A reception at Asbury Memorial Church Holliday Hall, 1008 E. Henry Street, will follow the service. The family is planning a celebration of Chuck's life for early 2026, and will share details once they are finalized.

If you knew Chuck, you knew how much he enjoyed sharing a meal with his friends and family. In lieu of flowers or donations, please honor his memory by enjoying a meal with loved ones.
