Charles M "Charlie" Simpson

Charles "Charlie" M. Simpson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on July 9, 2024, in Osceola, IN. Born on September 6, 1935, in Mishawaka, IN, Charlie lived a full and vibrant life defined by love, craftsmanship, and an unquenchable zest for the outdoors.
Charlie cultivated a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love alongside Mary Louise (Bowman) Simpson, his wife of 67 years, who he married at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Mishawaka. Their union blossomed with the births of four daughters: Deborah (Mark) Murray, Karen (David) Mulderink, Barbara Morgan, and Cindy (Jeff) Stoneburner. The joy of family extended to his loving grandchildren: Tiffany, Jackie, Thomas, Travis, Austin, Michelle, Christopher, Kenny, Jessica, and Kaitlyn, and further to his adoring great-grandchildren: Dakotah, Allysen, Lydia, Emily, Charles, Carmen, Zachary, Patrick, Andrew, Haddie, Sawyer, Emilia, Ayva, Karson, Isaac, Ayden, and Olivia. Charlie is also survived by his dear brother, Donald (Carolyn) Simpson, and brother-in-law, John (Carroll) Bowman. He was preceded in death by his esteemed parents, Harold M. Simpson and Ruth E. (Gilmer) Simpson.
A proud graduate of Mishawaka High School's class of 1953, Charlie dedicated his hands and heart to a lifelong career as a general carpenter. His artistry and technical skill were not only evident in his work but also in his personal passion for woodworking and maintaining the family genealogy. Charlie, an avid fisherman, found solace and thrill in the embrace of nature. His commitment led him to volunteer over 40 hours a week at Potato Creek State Park, an endeavor that benefitted the community and satisfied his soul alike.
Remembered as loving, handy, and generous, Charlie's legacy is ingrained in every life he touched and in every project he undertook. His diligent involvement in the Mishawaka Alumni Association spoke volumes of his dedication to preserving connections and community spirit. Charlie's life was a testament to the power of hard work and the importance of family as that is what he loved the most.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel is assisting the family with final arrangements.
