SINSEL III, Charles A. (Chad), 88, died peacefully on November 10 after several months
of declining health. The son of Elizabeth P. and Rupert A. Sinsel, Chad was born in
Washington, DC, in 1935, but spent 50 years of his life in Clarksburg, WV. He is
survived by his wife, Lorraine M. Sinsel; brother, Douglas P. Sinsel (Birgitta); five
children, Katy McGrann (David), Betsy Sinsel (Terry), Parry Harvey, Sarah Locher
(Rich), and Chark Sinsel (Laura); grandchildren Maggie McGrann (Nicholas), Naomi
McGrann, Pete Harvey (Noelle), Emmy Parker (Jake), Will Harvey, Jon Harvey, Hannah
Locher, Tom Locher, Tim Locher, Harrison Sinsel, and Lizzie Sinsel; and nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends.
Chad graduated in 1953 from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, WV, and
from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV (B.A. History 1958; LL.B. 1960). At
WVU, he served a one-year term as Chief Justice of the Student Court and was a member
of the Mountain honorary society, Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, and the WVU swim team,
where he lettered. After graduation, he practiced law in Clarksburg from 1960 to 1988,
first with his father at Sinsel & Sinsel law firm, later Louchery & Sinsel, and Sinsel &
Warder, focusing primarily in the areas of real estate, banking, corporations, estates and
coal, oil, and gas. As a member of the West Virginia State Bar, he chaired the Young
Lawyers Section (1967) and served as President of the Harrison County Bar Association
in 1974. He was West Virginia Legislative Counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies
from 1969 to 1985. A long-time member of the West Virginia University Alumni
Association, Chad served for several years as the President of the Harrison County
Chapter. He was involved in Kiwanis Club and served on many local organizations'
boards, including the library, the former Lowndes Bank, the Clarksburg Country Club,
the Daywood Foundation, and the vestry at Christ Episcopal Church. In later years, he
lived in Deep Creek, MD, and Martinsburg, WV, where he retired from the law firm of
Martin & Seibert, before finally landing in
Ormond Beach, FL.
Chad was an avid sports enthusiast, regularly playing golf well into his sixth decade, and
an ardent WVU Mountaineer and Pittsburgh Steeler fan, both of which he supported
passionately and loudly. At 6'4" tall, he had not only a large physical presence, but a
larger-than-life personality and quick wit. In Ormond Beach, he enjoyed socializing with
his wife and friends at their favorite hangouts.
The extended family appreciates the compassionate care he received from the nursing
staff at AdventHealth in Daytona Beach. Donations in Chad's memory may be made to
the WVU Foundation at 1 Waterfront Place, 7th floor, Morgantown, WV 26501, or a
charitable organization of your choice. A private memorial service will be held at a future
date.
