Charles Allen Stewart, affectionately known as "Charlie” or “Chuck", life-long Nowata County resident passed away January 22nd, 2025 at Ascension St. John Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, OK at the age of 76. Charlie was born January 2,1949 in Nowata, Oklahoma to Mac M. Stewart, Jr. and Helen Inez (Trimble) Stewart. Charlie and younger brother Tom were raised on the family farm near Childers, OK.
Charlie graduated from Lenapah High School in 1967 and continued his education at Oklahoma State University. Following his years in Stillwater, he joined the Independence National Reserve Unit out of Independence, KS. After basic training, Charlie returned home to Nowata County and began working for Dick Allen at his feed store. When Allen closed the store years later, it left a need for a feed supply store in Nowata. In 1981, Charlie and Dean Hollenbeck joined forces and opened the Ranch Supply – a feed and supply store and mill that Charlie went on to own and operate for over 30 years. You could always find him and others at the over 100-year-old building on East Cherokee that housed the store and mill as it was often a gathering place for visiting with neighbors.
Charlie was a passionate OSU Cowboys fan and a proud member of the OSU Alumni Association and Posse. He loved his trips with friends to Stillwater for ballgames. Charlie also enjoyed playing cards and could often be found with his friends at "Choir Practice” as most would know it. He was an avid golfer and worked at the Nowata Country Club, taking pride in caring for the greens. Above all, Charlie loved his family. He was the best “Grandpa Charlie”, always supporting his bonus grandkids at their school events, listening to how their day had been over dinner, and ready for the next big adventure - even if it was Branson or Disney World. Charlie will be missed by all who knew him.
Preceding Charlie in death are his parents, Mac, Jr. and Helen Stewart.
Charlie is survived by his brother Tom Stewart and wife Mary of Delaware, OK; nephew Trayson Stewart and wife Mindy of Delaware, OK; niece Tallie Gregg and husband Jon of Shawnee, OK; great nieces Tobie Mitchell, Tyller Mitchell, and Karsyn Gregg; his adored love of many years Cyrina Paige of Nowata, OK; bonus daughter Candy Paige of Nowata, OK, and bonus grandchildren Kya, Jagger, and Taevy Murnan who always knew Charlie as their Papa; many other relatives, loved ones, and a town full of dear friends.
Arrangements are in the care of Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata. Charlie’s Memorial Service will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, February 1st, 2025 at the First Church of God in Nowata, OK. The family encourages anyone attending the service to sport their OSU best just as Charlie would have liked it. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemoriesnowata.com.
