Mothe Funeral Homes, LLC - HarveyCharles Frederick Thensted, a loving husband and father, peacefully passed away on August 13, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on July 7, 1947, in New Orleans, LA. Charlie was a lifelong resident of the area, where he made significant contributions both through his career and his personal endeavors. He was a distinguished professional and loyal family man.
Charlie’s educational journey began at De La Salle High School, from which he graduated in 1965. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1969. His commitment to service was evident as he served as a Captain in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Charlie pursued a career in law, earning his Juris Doctor from Tulane Law School in 1977 and further enhancing his expertise with a Master of Laws from Harvard University in 1983.
He practiced law as a commercial litigator in New Orleans for several years. He shared his knowledge and experience from 1984 to 2014 as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Tulane University where he created and taught a course on Negotiation and Mediation Advocacy. Later in his career he received a Masters of Business Administration from UNO in 1999. He transitioned to become a Financial Advisor, establishing his own practice with Ameriprise where he continued to impact the lives of many individuals and families. Charlie’s professional accomplishments were many.
He relished the moments spent with his son, Charles. Charlie found immense joy in listening to Charles’ s stories and watching sports with him. He would say that he loved giving advice to Charles and pretending that he took it. The best parts of Charlie were his quick wit, sense of humor, brilliance, and his dedication to his family.
Charlie was very courageous in his health battles through the years. He fought a good fight. His heart of this world may have failed but his spirit was stubbornly strong. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Terri Hannibal Thensted, his son, Charles Joseph Thensted and his sister Susan Serio. He was uncle to Jay Serio, Erik Serio, and Courtney Dupuis. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Charles Thensted and his mother, Marie Lambert Thensted.
Charlie’s legacy will be honored during a visitation at Lighthouse For Christ Church in New Orleans on August 23, 2025, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at the same location from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
