Septime Poirrier Obituary

Visit the Greenwood Funeral Home website to view the full obituary.
With profound sadness, the family of Septime "Sep" Joseph Poirrier, Jr. announces his passing at the age of 90. Sep departed this life peacefully at his home on August 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family during his final days. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Sep's life was a reflection of faith, humility, and joy in life's simplest treasures. Born on May 15, 1935, in Garyville, Louisiana, Sep was the son of the late Septime Joseph Poirrier, Sr. and Mary Lucy Navarra. He attended DeLaSalle High School in New Orleans and was in the first graduating class of 1953. Sep served in the Army National Guard from 1953 to 1959.

In his professional life, Sep built a long career in insurance, respected for his steady hand and wise counsel. At home, he was the family's weatherman, handyman, and rock. Known for his humor and mischief, Sep was a world-class storyteller and practical joker. His twinkle-eyed tales and playful pranks brought joy to family and friends alike. Sep was a true outdoorsman, whether on land or on the water, he enjoyed the adventure and challenges of nature and often did so with his daughters or grandchildren, and always with his favorite dog by his side.

Sep's life was one well lived: a tapestry woven from family, faith, stories, and simple joys. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will carry forward through generations.

Sep is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Doris French Poirrier. Together, they created a family that was his greatest pride. He is survived by their three daughters: Jeanelle Scheurich (Steven), Angele Fitzhenry, and Michele Zelenko (Bob). He was the proud grandfather of Kaitlyn Scheurich, Zachary Scheurich, Brock Fitzhenry (Emily), Spencer Fitzhenry, and Kade Fitzhenry, and the doting great-grandfather of Laikyn Fitzhenry and Aubrey Fitzhenry. Sep is also remembered by his siblings Rose Mary Poirrier, John Edwin Poirrier (Kathy), Marion White (and late husband Robert), and Francis "Frankie" Poirrier (and late wife Roxinda), along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his siblings Alice Ann Broussard (Meryl), Rubye Ory (Harry), Estelle Papania (survived by her husband Bernard), and Michael Poirrier.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Sep's doctors and his devoted caregivers, whose compassion, patience, and gentle presence brought great comfort to him and to those who loved him during his final years.

A Memorial service will be held in Sep's honor on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
