With profound sadness, the family of Doris French Poirrier announces her passing at the age of 87. Doris left her earthly life unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on September 13, 2025 surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on November 24, 1937 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Doris was the daughter of the late Raymond Joseph French, Sr., and Clare Louise Fischer. She attended St. Mary's Dominican High School and graduated from St. Mary's Dominican College in 1959. Doris met the love of her life, Septime Poirrier, Jr. in 1954 and wed in 1960. They went on to build a beautiful life and family together for 65 years.

Doris had the opportunity to pursue her career in the field of nutrition, however she chose to follow the path of a dedicated wife and full-time mother to her three girls. She was devoted to her family and always put their needs ahead of her own. Doris was known for being a kindhearted, compassionate, and devout Catholic. She instilled these characteristics in her girls and provided a living example of unconditional love and acceptance of all.

Once her children were all of school age, she decided to join the workforce again and began to work as an office accountant at Greenlawn Elementary, and remained there until her retirement. It was her way to contribute to the family finances while maintaining a schedule that did not take her away from her priority - family. Over the course of her career, she was awarded and recognized for her outstanding work and dedication to the staff and children. She created many lasting friendships during that time, many of whom she spoke to just days before her passing.

Doris enjoyed the beauty of nature and had quite the green thumb. Her azaleas were always beautiful and framed each house she lived in; her porch was never void of flowers or plants. She treasured the time spent with her friends, cared for those in need by delivering communion to homebound, and excelled at spoiling Sep, as well as their five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Doris was an anchor for her family, always constant in her support, giving of her time, and a steadfast reminder that God is first and all else is according to His plan. Her life was a beautiful story intertwined with love, loyalty, and faith.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Septime Joseph Poirrier, Jr. who was laid to rest on September 12, 2025. She is survived by their three daughters: Michele Zelenko (Bob), Angele Fitzhenry, and Jeanelle Scheurich (Steven). She was the proud grandmother of Brock Fitzhenry (Emily), Spencer Fitzhenry, Kade Fitzhenry, Kaitlyn Scheurich and Zachary Scheurich and the adoring great-grandmother to Laikyn Fitzhenry and Aubrey Fitzhenry. Doris is remembered by her siblings Raymond French, Jr. (Elaine) and Rosemary Gremillion (Bruce) as well as her many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers who have been with Doris in the recent years and to the doctors who tried valiantly to give us just a bit more time with her. The Lord's purpose for Doris on earth was fulfilled and He has welcomed her back home.
