Charlie had a great start, seeing as he was born in the greatest city in the world, New Orleans. He spent his boyhood in Kenner, Louisiana. He then decided to move to the neighboring state of Mississippi and spent the last thirty years in McNeil.
Charlie was among the youngest boy in a large traditional Italian family. He had wonderful parents, 7 sisters and 2 brothers. The family was tight knit and devout Roman Catholic.
Speaking of faith, there are a number of words that could be used to describe both Charlie and his faith. "Remarkable" is a great option; his faith was certainly that. Anyone who met him could tell you so. He was always helpful and always doing his part to help his fellow man. Relatives could tell you that he never met a stranger, and was a friend to all. Charlie was also known to help the homeless by bringing them meals. He often said he couldn't stand to see people without.
"Consistent" was another option. Charlie's faith was absolutely a consistent one. He lived it, his Christianity, with honor, day in and day out. While both of those adjectives are true, the adjective that best describes Charlie and his faith is "genuine". If you take a moment to look up the word genuine in the dictionary, you'll find that it means several things. It means "actual", "true", "sincere", and "free from hypocrisy or pretense". Charlie was a shining example of a wonderful person and the type of life a Christian should live. One could also describe Charlie as a jokester. He thoroughly enjoyed making everyone around him laugh, and was universally known as a prankster of the highest degree. His sister remembers how he would move things, make sure that folks noticed it missing, wait a while and return it. He'd then go to great lengths to convince them the object had always been there. It was an old favorite prank of his. He could also be described as Chatty Charlie. One sister lovingly said he had a mouth almost as big as his heart. If you knew Charlie, you knew that to be true. He could, and would talk to anyone. It's also important to note that he was a great listener too. Oftentimes, people are only good at one of those things, but not Charlie.
Charlie was also a family man. Charlie loved to go back home and visit Louisiana. He'd stay with his brother in law and little sister. He was also a truly devoted and dedicated son. After his father passed away, he devoted the next 25 years of his life to helping his sister to care for their aging mother until she too passed away.
Charlie was an amalgamation of so many wonderful things. He had the most beautiful and genuine personality. He was a big football fan, especially of his favorite team, the Saints. Fishing was another past time favorite. he also had a flock of prized chickens he adored caring for. He would even crow at his neighbors in the mornings, right along with his chickens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall William Troglen, Sr., and Mary Cangelosi Troglen; and his sister, Bythie Troglen James.
Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Esther (Louis) Troglen Chedville, Jo Ann (Lawrence) Troglen Bunch, Margaret Troglen Smith, Nancy (Dominic) Troglen Bisesi, Mabel Ann Troglen Poche, and Josephine Patricia Troglen; his brothers, Marshall (Katherine) William Troglen, Jr., and Johnny (Liz) D Troglen; his numerous nieces and nephews; and his furry family member, Bentley.
In closing, Charlie will be deeply missed by all the people whose hearts he touched. His big and beautiful smile, that crept into his eyes on that handsome mug, will be forever imprinted in the memories of his family and dearest friends. He will be remembered fondly, in his abundance of love, by his surviving siblings and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. We'll miss you Charlie, until we see you again.
