Funeral Services for Gregory H. Mitchell, Sr., age 84, of Picayune, MS, who passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025, will be held Friday, August 22, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Salem Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Friday, August 22, 2025 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Salem Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Skipper/ Private Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

Elder Terry Robertson, Elder Gary Sumrall, and Elder Joe Lott will officiate the service.

Born and raised in Picayune, Greg attended Picayune Memorial High School and graduated in 1959. He then went on to play football at Pearl River Community College. He began his career at Michoud in the 1960s in the procurement division, where he contributed to the production of the first stages of the Saturn rockets.

In 1969, he left the space program to establish his own business, Ole Salem Packing Company. During this time, he was elected to the city council and then later served 4 terms as Mayor of Picayune. Greg was a member of three bank boards during his lifetime and also served on the Board of Directors at Pearl River Community College.

After selling his business, he returned to aerospace work at Stennis Space Center, where he served as Director of Procurement and Contracts. In retirement, Greg found joy in spending time with his grandchildren and working in his yard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elder Herman Harold Mitchell and Ethel Bounds Mitchell.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Anna Howell Mitchell; daughter, Emily Mitchell; and son, Greg (Mandi) Mitchell, Jr.; grandchildren, Gregory (Treyton) Mitchell, III, Roman Mitchell, and Brinley Mitchell; and sister, Patricia Trissie Moeller.
