Charles Daniel (Danny) Vanatta was born in South Bend, IN on March 23, 1943. He died at home on December 26, 2025 surrounded by the love & comfort of his wife and daughter. Charles graduated from Washington High School & attended Indiana State University. He honorably served two enlistments in the United States Army. His last place of employment before retirement was in the sales department for One Source Micro Products. In retirement, he enjoyed his snowbird days in Florida.
Charles was the beloved son of the late Charles Emery Vanatta and Lurea (Bosstick) Vanatta. His Sister, Thelma (Richard) Graham & bother James Thomas proceeded him in death. Charles also faced the heartbreaking loss of his son Charles (Charlie) Vanatta (Fran Cordell) and his grandson Dustin Vanatta.

He is survived by his wife Carol Lee (Stepniewski). They were married for 61 years. He is also survived by his daughter Sherrie (Jeff Reed) Wheeler, his grandchildren Brooke (Wheeler) Diel (Eric Ewing), and Nicholas (Lauren) Wheeler. He was blessed with 5 great grandchildren. He had many nieces and nephews, 3 of which were more like siblings, Chris (Bill) Johnson, Debi (John) Motz, and Linda Graham.
Charles loved his family and the game of golf. While in the Army, he played on the Army golf team and after enjoyed all the local courses and his travels with his golf buddies. There will be a graveside service with Military honors on January 7, 2026. His stories, antics, and love will be shared in a gathering after the service. The memory of him will be treasured.
