Charles G. "Papa" Vandegrift, 84, passed away on June 25, 2025 after a short battle with cancer. He resided in the Akron area all of his life. Chuck graduated from Copley High School and then went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from The Ohio State University. He went on to complete a 45 year career in Pharmacy/Management. Chuck was employed by Gray Drug, Revco and CVS, where he maintained the #1 store in the country with all 3 companies. He enjoyed a good cup of hot coffee as well as a bowl of ice cream, reading the newspaper and National Geographic, working puzzles, playing golf, cookouts, working around the yard and spending time with his family.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Viola; parents, Eldon and Florence; siblings, Lucille Csonka, Chris Vandegrift, Clyde Vandegrift, Chester Vandegrift, Carl Vandegrift, Cecil Vandegrift. He will be sadly missed by his children, Tim (Mary) Vandegrift, Pam Underwood (Mike Phillips); granddaughters, Amber Vandegrift (Kevin Dile), Traci (Dave) Plungas, Kayley Underwood; great grandchildren, Brayden Ratliff, Viola Plungas, Isla Plungas; siblings, Edith Bednar, Clair (Mary) Vandegrift; sisters-in-law, Reva Newman, Carol Vandegrift, Carolena Vandegrift; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will take place Wednesday, July 2 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Moore's Chapel Cemetery.
