Robert Schumann Obituary

Robert (Bob) J. Schumann passed away on September 9, 2025. Bob was born to Robert E. and Ruth Widman Schumann. Raised in Copley, Bob graduated from Copley High School and from the University of Akron where he was a proud member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Bob found home wherever his family lived and he and his wife, Beverly, built their lives together beginning in Canal Fulton, then Youngstown and presently in Kent, Ohio. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle, Bob’s greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind his four sons, David (Kristie), Matthew (Kristen), Brian (Dan) and Tim (Jen); seven grandchildren, Tyler (Paige), Caitlin, Isabella, Conner, Nathaniel, Jack and Ben; and two great grandchildren, Jeremie and Grayson. Bob is also survived by his two sisters, Cindi and Candi, his sisters-in-law Suzanne (Mike), Katie, Gail (Steve), Bev, Barbara (Brian) and brothers-in-law Walter, Jimmy (Tammy), and John (Storei); along with many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends who will cherish his memory.

Welcoming him to his heavenly home are his parents Robert E. and Ruth Widman Schumann, his mother and father-in-law John and Jean Schick, Jerry Vanderhide, Mark O’Mahony, Buz Schick, Marylea Stitzel, and Eddie Schick.

Bob’s sports knowledge spanned from playing them as a teenager and young man to following his favorite players and teams and knowing every stat on them to coaching his sons and grandsons in baseball and football. Even in their off years he devotedly cheered on his “Dians,” (Guardians) and the Browns. His love of sports reflected his values of teamwork, dedication, and encouragement.

Bob also loved to cook, and he fed everyone. Going to the Butcher Shop with Bob was an experience, and he taught us the secret of selecting a tender cut of meat. Family traditions such as Sunday football or baseball games always included Bob’s specialties. Bob and Beverly loved their Sunday traditions of going to church and then gathering as a family for Sunday suppers including Bob’s famous meals and his piled high ice cream sundaes for all his grandchildren.

Family and friends will remember Bob as a man of loyalty, warmth and humor, whose greatest pride was his family. His presence will surely be missed, but his love will remain in the hearts of all that were fortunate to know him. Above all, Bob was deeply devoted to the well being of his family. In all of our lives, Bob was our even keel. His care, guidance, and quiet strength were constant sources of comfort, and his legacy will continue to live on through the multi-generations who loved him.

Visiting hours are Thursday, September 18 from 5-8 PM at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, 628 West Main Street, Kent, OH. Bob’s funeral mass is Friday the 19th at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 313 North Depeyster St., Kent, OH.

Bob liked to pay it forward. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a family in need in the Kent area at gofund.me or to the American Heart Association.
