With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Charley Jessie Johnson Jr., affectionately known as CJ and Skip, who left this world on March 6, 2025, at the age of 47. Charley was a native of Scotlandville and a hardworking man, deeply passionate about mechanical work, a skill that was evident in everything he touched. It is said that there wasn’t a vehicle too big or too small for him, and this versatility made him a jack of all trades. From a young age, his entrepreneurial spirit ignited his ambition to succeed, leading him to establish his mechanical business, where he worked tirelessly to bring his visions to life.
Charley attended Glen Oaks High School and carried the values he learned there into his everyday life. He embraced his faith, having been baptized at an early age, which shaped his character and guided him through life’s trials. Ever diligent, he balanced his time between multiple pursuits, finding joy in hobbies such as working on cars, cooking, traveling, shopping, and most importantly, spending cherished moments with his family.
He leaves behind a loving family that includes his wife, Ditanya Johnson; his son, Davaron Harris; and stepson, Marques Johnson. Charley was also a beloved son to his mother, JoEdna Johnson, and a caring brother to his sister, Alzener "Lady" Johnson. His legacy will live on through his two nephews, Brandon Johnson and Kadarius Johnson, as well as his niece, Derrielle Williams.
CJ shared countless memories with his devoted friends Kelvin Ely, Andre "Dre" Riley, and Julian LaFlour, who will forever hold him close in their hearts. He is survived by a large extended family, including nine aunts, two uncles, numerous cousins, and additional relatives and friends who were all touched by his unwavering spirit and kindness.
Though we must now say goodbye, CJ will remain alive in our hearts and memories. He was predeceased by his father, Charley Johnson Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Jack and Alzina Bell Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Samuel and Cora; and numerous other loved ones, including seven uncles, four aunts, and six cousins.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate CJ's life at Resting Place Funeral Home 7840 Florida Blvd Baton Rouge, LA 70806, with a viewing scheduled for Saturday March 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
