Charlie Derrick, age 70, of Asheboro, NC, passed away on September 8, 2024, at the Randolph Hospice House. Born on September 21, 1953, in Chadburn, NC, to Leo Derrick Jr. and Patsy Carter Derrick, Charlie was a proud graduate of Asheboro High School (Class of 1971) and East Carolina University (Class of 1976). He dedicated 45 years to a successful career in sales at East Coast Lumber, served on the board of the Main Street Group Home through Mental Health, and was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church.
An avid sportsman, Charlie founded the Cedar Creek Sportsman’s Club and had a deep passion for deep-sea fishing and hunting. He was known for sharing legendary tales of his adventures, bringing laughter and joy to gatherings. His adventurous spirit and infectious smile made him the life of the party.
Charlie cherished his family, including his beloved wife of 45 years, Mary Alice Dunn Derrick; his son, Carter Derrick (Lisa) of Wilmington; his daughter, Rebecca Derrick-Judski of Charleston, SC; and his grandchildren, Clay, Crew, Clara, Carson, Essie, and Charleston Rose. He is preceded in death by his father Leo Derrick, Jr. He is also survived by his mother, Patsy Carter Derrick of Asheboro; his brothers, Leo Derrick III (Tricia) of Asheboro and Mike Derrick of Pittsboro; as well as ten nieces and nephews who will carry on his stories.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 420 West Walker Avenue, Asheboro, with Rev. Brian Rummage officiating.
