Charlotte Laurie Duncan McConnell, age 96, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 9:00 pm on Tuesday November 11, 2025, at Sage Bluff Health & Rehabilitation, Fort Wayne. Born on March 24, 1929, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Ellsworth and Capitola (Simmons) Johnson.
Charlotte attended local schools and graduated from Churubusco High School. She worked at the Churubusco License Branch for many years until it was closed and was a member of the Purdue Extension Homemakers.
On December 7, 1947, she married Roger Duncan in Columbia City. They had 5 children and were married 54 years before his passing in 2002.
Then on July 6, 2004, she married Jack McConnell. They were married 9 years before his passing in 2013.
Charlotte loved numbers and continued to do all of her own banking to the very end. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and wintering in Florida and later in Texas. Charlotte attended and enjoyed Eel River Baptist and later Ormas Baptist Churches throughout her entire lifetime.
Survivors include her children Donna K. (Bill) Batchelder of Fort Wayne and Jennifer L. (Steve) Anderson of Columbia City; grandchildren Daryl Duane (Michelle) Blackburn, Nicole Batchelder, Justin J. (Melissa) Anderson, Haley L. Royer, Joshua (Brandi) Duncan, and Kristi Duncan; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great-greatgrandchild; and sister, Sharon (Ray) Beeler.
In addition to her two husbands, Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, and sons Daniel Duncan, Brad Duncan, and Neal Duncan.
A memorial service for Charlotte will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday November 21, 2025, at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with calling one hour prior to service.
Burial in Eel River Cemetery, Churubusco.
Memorial contributions in memory of Charlotte may be made to Ormas Baptist Church.
