Charlotte "Char" M. Richardson, age 79, passed away peacefully at home with her daughters by her side on September 11, 2025.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church at 11:00am. Visitation will take place from 9:30am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery immediately following.
Char was born on September 23, 1945, in
Wisconsin Rapids, WI, to William and Eleanor (Ponczoch) Slattery. Char graduated from Assumption High School in 1963. She later went on to marry Ronald Richardson, which ended in divorce.
She began her career at Consolidated Papers in the office before following her true calling in healthcare. In 1984, she earned her nursing degree from Mid-State Technical College. Over the years, she cared for countless patients while working at Riverview Hospital, Edgewater Haven Nursing Home, and Adams County Memorial Hospital.
Always committed to helping others, she also earned her EMT certification and worked for Higgins Ambulance Service, which later became United Ambulance Service. Beyond her nursing and EMT work, she used her computers skills to work as a scheduler, payroll specialist, and create memorial DVDs for families who lost loved ones.
Her devotion to others extended beyond her professional life. After decades of service, she retired so she could dedicate her time to caring for her mother-a role she considered both an honor and a privilege.
She found her greatest pride and purpose in caring for others, whether it was celebrating their accomplishments, offering support in difficult times, or simply making sure those around her felt loved.
During her time working at the nursing home, Char showed extraordinary compassion. She would sit beside residents in their final moments, holding their hands so they would not have to leave this world alone. Her gentle presence brought comfort not only to those she cared for, but to their families as well.
Outside of her work, she enjoyed a wide variety of arts and crafts, from gardening, canning, and ceramics to diamond art and cake decorating. She loved creating things with her hands and found joy in sharing her talents with others. Above all, she cherished her dogs, who were a constant source of love and companionship.
Her family, friends, and all who knew her will remember her as a selfless soul who gave endlessly of her heart and time. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the many lives she so beautifully touched.
Char is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Tim) Brill and Debbie Richardson; grandchildren, Michael Brill, Alana Brill, and James Endries; great-grandchild, Eden Melody Boushon; siblings Lois Leece, Kathy TerMaat, Janet (Larry) Lassa, John (Kris) Slattery, Michael Slattery (Deb Glodowski), Mary Beth (Craig) Kruse, Marcia Slattery, M.D., and Lori Slattery; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful fur-baby, Lexi.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Eleanor Slattery; brothers, William (Judy) Slattery Jr., and Donald Slattery (Diane Postler-Slattery); brothers in law, Dale TerMaat, and Walter Leece; nephews, Jeffrey TerMaat, and Dennis Leece; infant brother, Kenneth Slattery; and infant sister, Jean Marie Slattery.
