William Richard Halbur, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Renaissance Assisted Living Home in Wisconsin Rapids.
Bill was born on May 13, 1938, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, to Alvin and Geraldine (Davis) Halbur. He graduated from Assumption High School and proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years, including two years stationed in Madrid, Spain.
On September 9, 1961, Bill married the love of his life, Dorothy (Nugent) Halbur, at The Little Brown Church in Chickasaw County, Iowa. They were blessed with 63 wonderful years of marriage, built on love, laughter, and mutual devotion.
In 1968, Bill began a long and dedicated career as a firefighter for the City of Wisconsin Rapids, a role he held until his retirement in 1993. Known for his strong work ethic and camaraderie with his fellow firefighters, he was proud to serve his community.
After retiring, Bill and Dorothy began spending winters in Tucson, Arizona, where they purchased a home and enjoyed 28 years of sunshine, new friendships, and time together. Bill loved being around people. Whether it was golfing, playing cards, or spending time with his family and friends, he found joy in connection and conversation. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he remained active in his faith.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, and their three children: Jan (Sara) Halbur and Troy (Patty) Halbur of Wisconsin Rapids, and Chrystal (Neil) Heinrich of Nekoosa. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Howard (Alice) Heinrich, Codi (Marisa) Halbur, Kelsey (Chase) Hildebrand, Drew (Brie) Heinrich, Cort (Katherine) Halbur, Jared (Payton) Halbur, and Alec (Lavanya) Heinrich. Bill was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister, Joan Valenti of California, and his brother-in-law, Bob Schudy of Wisconsin Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Fritz, Ronald, and Kenneth Halbur; and two sisters, Donna Schudy and Patricia Schade.
Bill will be remembered for his warm smile, generous spirit, and deep love for his family. His legacy of kindness, service, and joy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Funeral services will be at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home on Monday, June 16th. Visitation will be held at 9am with funeral services at 11am. Rev. Bryce Clayton will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to The Renaissance and Interim Healthcare – Hospice for their compassionate and dedicated care of Bill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a Mid-State Technical College firefighting / paramedic scholarship fund in Bill's honor, supporting the next generation of firefighters who serve with courage and dedication.

My deepest condolences for the Halbur family upon Bill's passing.
I got a feeling the legion baseball bus trips were never the same without him.
