Cheryl M. Demorest Atkinson, 77, of Summit, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024, with her family by her side following her courageous short battle with cancer. She was born in Rome, OH on October 24, 1947 a daughter of the late Howard and Carrie Gunther Demorest.
Cheryl worked for Wegman's and went on to work at Plastikos until her retirement. She loved spending time with her grandchildren being a Nana and always put others before herself, even when she was ill. She enjoyed baking, gardening, ceramics, embroidery, watching Hallmark movies, and her Westerns. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. The family will cherish the wonderful memories and you will always be forever in our hearts. You will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of over 30 years, J. Thomas Atkinson; two brothers, Ralph and Howard Demorest; and two sisters, Florence Adams and Em Herring.
Survivors include her daughter, Chris Baker (Scott) of Summit, and their children, Jeffrey and Joshua Baker; her son, Jack Atkinson (Mary Lou) of Erie, and their children, Thomas, Daniel and Gwen Atkinson, Koda Dreisbach, and James Younke ; one sister, Carrie "Cookie" Kennedy, of Ashtabula; and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to nurses Matt, Jim, and Chelsie to name a few, in addition to the other staff members on the 4th floor of UPMC Hamot Respiratory IU for taking great care of our mother.
Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at Laurel Hill Cemetery (section 7) on Friday at 11 a.m. Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16504.
