Cheryl Lynn Jozefik, 78, of
McHenry, Illinois, gained her angel wings surrounded by family on October 18, 2025. She is now reunited for eternity with the love of her life and soulmate, her Rich.
She was born on January 11, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Richard and Shirley (Loftquist) Zinke. She graduated from Wilmot High School.
Cheryl met "her Rich" when she was 17 years old in Antioch, Illinois. For them, it was love at first sight. She aways called him "her Elvis Presley" Cheryl loved telling the funny story of how they met and how she and her sister were going back and forth over who Rich liked - like typical loving sisters do. Cheryl won - and they married a few months later in 1965, against her parents' wishes. Cheryl chose love, showing her personality to always follow your heart no matter what people think or say.
Cheryl remained devoted to "her Rich" throughout her life, never feeling interested in dating anyone else, even after losing him at such a young age, proving the true definition of soulmates. She continued to talk about him and share his memory with those she loved.
She loved her siblings deeply - she loved spending time with her sister and had fond memories of putting her little brother in her bicycle basket and taking him everywhere with her.
Cheryl was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose kind heart and loving spirit touched everyone who knew her. She is survived by her beloved son, Mark (Mary) Jozefik; her cherished granddaughter, Margo Jozefik; and her little brother, John Zinke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Jozefik; her parents, Richard and Shirley Zinke; her sister, Donna Retzlaff; and her mother- and father-in-law, Eleanor and Joseph Jozefik.
Cheryl loved her "treasure" - her son Mark - with all her heart. She always dreamed of having a little girl of her own and found that joy in her granddaughter, Margo, whom she adored deeply. She and Margo shared many special moments together watching America's Got Talent, The Voice, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Ghost Whisperer. They also loved having dance parties together, laughing and singing along to Blondie, Moves Like Jagger, and Whataya Want from Me. Cheryl also loved dogs, one of her jobs she held was grooming dogs, she enjoyed talking to Margo about her dogs, Gingerbread and Houdini, whom she loved dearly.
Cheryl enjoyed life's simple pleasures - boating with her husband and son, helping others, spending time with family, bumming around stores, gardening, enjoying flowers, watching the birds, listening to Elvis Presley and Blondie. She also loved eating her favorite snacks: Chester's Butter Puffcorn and Lay's potato chips, along with sweet treats like Milky Ways, Hershey's Kisses, Chips Ahoy cookies, and chocolate-covered cherries - always enjoyed with a cold drink of Pepsi, her favorite drink. Lately, Cheryl became an avid fan of Chicago P.D.
Cheryl's warmth, humor, and unwavering love will be forever remembered by those who were blessed to be part of her life. Her love and spirit will remain in the hearts of her family for eternity.
