Thomas A. Meyer

Thomas A. Meyer, 71, of Woodstock and formerly of Galena IL, passed away peacefully at his home October 23, 2025. Loving devoted husband to Kathleen Kelly, for 33 wonderful years. Beloved step-dad to Patrick, Ryan, Katie, Sean (Natalie), and Kyle Kelly. Loving grandfather to Jenna, Evan, Eden, Sky, and Kye. Dear brother of ten brothers and sisters. Cherished uncle to many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Margaret Meyer. Beloved dog-dad to Lady and Queenie. Dear friend to many. He will be missed greatly.
Tom grew up in Grayslake IL, where he learned the value of hard work from an early age. He went on to have a long and dedicated career as a skilled engineer with Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC). Known for his patience and resourcefulness, Tom took great pride in caring for his belongings-a quality that reflected his respect for craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Together with his wife, Tom owned and operated Abbey's High St. Bed and Breakfast in Galena for 22 years. Later in his life, Tom also served his community as a police officer. His dedication to others was recognized through multiple "Good Guy Award" recognitions in the Galena newspaper. Tom faced his four-year battle with cancer with quiet strength and unwavering courage, never complaining. He will be remembered for his integrity, strength, and kindness; for being a most devoted and loving husband, and for the steady, hardworking spirit that defined his life. Tom was incredibly dedicated to Kathleen and family, and extremely skilled at fixing and building anything. One example of this legacy can be seen in the historically recreated gazebo he built on their property at the corner of High & Hill St. in Galena.
A visitation will be held Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Dr. McHenry IL, from 4:00pm-8:00pm, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00pm.
