Cheryl Jeannine McGarey, age 76 of Ashland, Ky, passed peacefully while resting at the University of Kentucky Hospital, on May 1, 2025.
Cheryl was born on August 11, 1948. She was the blessing of the late Harlan and Hazel Daniel Kegley. Cheryl was a graduate of Paul Blazer High School. She loved working with children and turned that into a rewarding career. Cheryl shaped the little minds of the children at Ashland Public Schools for many years as the Head Start Teacher. It was a job that brought her great joy. Cheryl was loved beyond measure by her friends and family and her legacy will live on for many years to come.
Cheryl leaves behind her two devoted children Jason Alan McGarey (Andrea) of Chesapeake, VA, and Amy Janelle McGarey (Michael) of Ashland, KY, three precious grandchildren; Kellan Fails, Emily McGarey, and Erin Ducat (Jack), and one great-grandchild Colton.
In addition to her late parents, Cheryl is enjoying a Heavenly Reunion with her husband of 51 years, Melvin Dale McGarey.
A private graveside service is being held at Ashland Cemetery with her family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moore Street Tabernacle at 2608 Moore St, Ashland, KY 41101.
