Cheryl Ann, daughter of Francis "Glen" and Kathryn (Eggers) Adams, was born November 17, 1946, in Denison, Iowa. She attended St. Lawrence School and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1964. Cheryl played the French horn in high school. During high school, Cheryl met Roger Wernimont while working at A&W. Following graduation, she worked at B&H Super Valu until she and Roger were married on December 27, 1965. Roger was in the US. Marine Corps, and upon his return from Vietnam, Cheryl joined him while he was stationed at New River Marine Base in Jacksonville, North Carolina through the end of his enlistment. The couple then returned to Carroll where their four children were born.
Cheryl was employed at B&H Super Valu, Terra International, Commercial Equipment, Carroll Area Counseling Center and finally McFarland Clinic from which she retired in 2019.
Bowling was an activity the whole family enjoyed. Cheryl was on a women's league, she and Roger were on a couple's league, and the children bowled in junior leagues. Cheryl and Marc won the state family tournament in 1982 and were awarded a trip to Washington, D.C. to the National Family Tournament. Cheryl also served as secretary for the Carroll Women's Bowling Association for 10 years, supervising and organizing the annual city tournament. She also served as a leader in the Cub Scouts when the boys were in grade school. After retirement, she enjoyed crocheting and made many beautiful blankets. Cheryl enjoyed her Wednesday lunches with some coworkers from McFarland Clinic. Throughout the years, Cheryl also enjoyed painting, cooking, gardening, camping and going on vacations with her family. Cheryl cherished the time spent with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. A particularly bright light in her day was her great-granddaughter Harper, who gave her extra reason to fight so long.
Cheryl is survived by three children: Jill Wernimont of Carroll; Tony (Bobbi) Wernimont of Glidden; and Jodi Wernimont of Cedar Falls; her grandchildren: Kelsi Wernimont and special friend Cori Hyde, Kenzi Wernimont, Kyler Fehring and special friend Bailey Finken, Lexi Wernimont and fiancé Sam Ritchie, Emma Wernimont-Berry and special friend Jalen Steege; a great-granddaughter Harper Wernimont; her brothers: Loren "Tex" and his wife Judie Adams of Estherville and Larry "John" and his wife Cheryl (Wernimont) Adams of Geneseo, Illinois; a sister Norma and husband Robert Holley of Scranton; brothers-in-law: Dale Wernimont of Breda and Alan (Sheryl) Wernimont of Carroll; sisters-in-law: Bev (Melvin) Kruger of Churdan; Patricia (Sue Bailey) Wernimont of Omaha, Nebraska; Nancy (Jeff) Pudenz of Churdan; Lori (Craig) Walter of Papillion, Nebraska; Linda Wernimont of Carroll; JoAnn Wernimont of Carroll; and Mary Wernimont of Carroll; and by many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.
