Chester Adkins Obituary

Chet enjoyed working on classic cars, traveling the United States and Canada in his motor home, and watching sports. He became an Eagle Scout at the age of 14 and was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America. Chet was an elder for the Community of Christ Church.
Chet is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sandra; his children: Cliff (Laurie) Adkins, Don Adkins, and Mindy Adkins; grandchildren: Jessie (Ryan) Hermus, Abbie (Trent) Koenigs, Lindsey (Erik) Van Lysal, Zac Adkins and Christine (Chris) Baardsen; great grandchildren: Sophie, Maddux, Beckett, Kaden, Nolan, Brody, Myles, Maverick, Lucy, Sully, Beau, Drew, and Riley; sister Adruth McKenny; and many other relatives and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Jerry McKenny.
A memorial service for Chet will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday May 18, 2024 at Community of Christ Church, 19402 E Holke Road, Independence, MO 64057. Friends may visit from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Chet will be placed to rest at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens, 25203 E US Hwy 50, Lee's Summit, MO 64086.

Years ago, when Chet n Sandy moved to Minneapolis, my kids(4) and I flew up to visit them. This was long before Mindy came along. I´ve always thought how brave Chet was because he drove us all back to Independence in their station wagon! And it was fun, at least all of us thought so. What a guy! Sandee Riley Dougherty

Such Good friend and father. Example: my 4 kids n i flew to visit them when they moved to Minneapolis and then we ALL drove back to Sugar Creek in their station wagon. All 9 of us! We were neighbors for many years-such good memories. Sandee Pennington Dougherty

We knew Chet when he attended Woods Chapel congregation.... I remember his willingness to help others. When I heard of his passing the thought that came to my mind was his caring heart.
