Chester R. Gromek, 93, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 01, 2024, at his home in North Brunswick, New Jersey.
Mr. Gromek was born on April 7, 1930, in Jersey City to the late Stanley and Josephine (Adamska) Gromek, a cherished lifelong resident of North Brunswick, NJ.
Chester pursued higher education with diligence, graduating from St. Peter College in Jersey City before attaining his master's degree at NYU. After serving in the Army in Germany, he started his career at the St Regis Paper Company where he worked for over 30 years. His career path eventually led him to distinguished roles with the Department of Defense as a Contract Representative.
A devoted member of St. Augustine of Canterbury in Kendall Park, Chester found solace and spiritual fulfillment in his faith. He was a pillar of his community, embodying the principles of compassion, generosity, and leadership. Beyond his professional and civic contributions, Chester had a passion for gardening and home improvement. The family was never surprised to walk into their home and find that Mom and Dad had freshly wallpapered or painted a room.
Chester was predeceased by his beloved wife, Anna Theresa Gromek, leaving behind a legacy of enduring love and partnership. He is survived by his children, Gregory Gromek and his wife Maribeth of Amelia, Ohio, Christine Gromek and her partner Maureen Muller-Kahle of Hampton, Virginia, Andrew Gromek of North Brunswick, Catherine Gromek of Alexandria, Virginia, and Elizabeth Gromek of North Brunswick. His memory lives on in the hearts of his three grandchildren, Emma Gromek, Mary Abigail Gromek, and Annika Gromek, as well as his great-grandson Kolton Gromek.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, February 7th, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ 08873. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. at St. Augustine of Canterbury R.C. Church in Kendall Park, followed by interment at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City.
Memorial donations may be to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey at www.cfbnj.org.
