Cheyenne Otis Marrs

Cheyenne Otis Marrs, affectionately known as "Shinin'" by his mother, illuminated the world around him from the moment he was born on February 19, 1989, in Memphis, TN. He was a beacon of creativity and love, guiding anyone fortunate enough to know him with his bright and generous heart. Cheyenne's journey came to an unexpected close on July 3, 2025, in his beloved Memphis, leaving behind a legacy woven into the very fabric of music and family life.

In a world that often felt cruel, Cheyenne stood as a testament to kindness, embodying a pure and sweet soul who had an innate ability to empathize with others. Talented beyond measure, Cheyenne was not only a remarkable musician—a guitar-wielding singer-songwriter who graced the stage—but a devoted son, brother, and father. Following in the footsteps of his musically gifted father, Donald Otis Marrs, Cheyenne began his rhythm-filled life playing drums alongside his brother from the tender age of two, fostering a deep-rooted passion for music that would echo throughout his lifetime.

His days were filled with the melodies of exploration; Cheyenne reveled in admiring and diving into various genres of music with his family, sharing laughter, tunes, and creating unforgettable moments with family and friends. Whether it was listening to local music or engaging in captivating discussions about Hunter S. Thompson books with his mother, Judith Carroll (Zorzoli) Marrs, or indulging in the energy of PlayStation gaming and movie nights with his cherished son, Portland Cohen Marrs.  A proud father, he was exhilarated at welcoming daughter, Judy Rose, into the world. Cheyenne's life was a beautiful symphony of relationships.

Cheyenne took immense pride in his accomplishments, notably releasing the soulful album "Everybody Wants To Go Home," a reflection of his journey and artistic spirit. His passions extended beyond music; he found joy in writing songs and poems, effortlessly crafting intricate lines that resonated with those privileged to hear them.

Cheyenne's vibrant personality drew people to him. He was the friend who could always make you laugh and melt your worries away with his charm, delivering a mean cup of coffee that became a staple of his generous hospitality. With a great head of hair, he leaves behind countless cherished memories, adventures shared with his fiancé, Anna Rose Williams, and love that will continue to inspire.

Cheyenne is survived by a loving family, including his mother, Judith; his children, Portland Cohen Marrs and Judy Rose Marrs; his siblings, Ron Barnett, Jr. (Shawn), Heather Tapp (Dakota), Courtney Barnett (Patty), Donnie Marrs (Brooke), and Mimi Marrs; as well as his niece and nephews—Dominic Barnett, Tanner Barnett, Daylen Tapp, Cara Barnett, Wrigley Marrs—and a great-nephew, Jackson Barnett.

Cheyenne has reunited with his father, Donald Otis Marrs, playing their music in heaven.

As we gather to celebrate his life, we invite family and friends to join us for a visitation at The Carter Memorial Chapel at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven, MS, on July 9, 2025, from 6 PM to 8 PM. Although Cheyenne may no longer walk among us, his spirit, passion, and the music he created will forever resonate in our hearts, a melody of memories bound together by love. Rest in peace, dear Shinin'; you’ll be missed more than words can express, but your songs will play on through those you’ve touched.
