Chris Douglas Hughes, 39, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at his home in Water Valley, Mississippi. Visitation will be Friday, May 16, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford (601 Commerce Pkwy., Oxford, MS 38655). A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m., also at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford.
Chris was born on October 3, 1985 in Charleston, MS. At a young age, Chris developed such a loving personality. He was the type of person everyone felt comfortable around, and he took everyone just as they were. Chris never hesitate to help someone in need. This trait did not only apply to people. Chris also had a special place in his heart for any animal in need and would offer his home as a safe haven. He saved so many animals and treated them as family, especially his cats. Chris also was an extremely hard worker throughout his life, as he worked in construction. He was so clever, and seemed to be able to fix or build almost anything around the house.
In his free time, Chris was an avid gamer. Throughout his life, he amassed an incredible and cherished collection of vintage gaming consoles, along with their games. He also loved listening to music and had such a wide variety of genres he liked. He enjoyed everything from Heavy Metal to older Country, especially Johnny Cash. However, He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends.
His son, Reylan Kyler Hughes, was his pride and joy, and he was so proud to be his father. Chris leaves behind a lifetime of memories and lives touched, and he will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Chris is survived by his son, Reylan Cuyler Hughes of Water Valley; his wife, Lindsay Hughes of Randolph, MS; his father, Larry (Lisa) Hughes Sr. of Thaxton, MS; his brother, Larry (Amanda) Hughes Jr. of Oxford; his step-brother, Christopher (Sarah) Wadford of Starkville, MS; two step-sisters, Jamie Lyn (Eric) Brown of Canton, MS and Carrie Nalley of Oxford; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
