Chris Mitsos, a resident of Neshannock Township, passed away from a long illness on Friday, September 6th.
Chris was born on November 1, 1932 to Evanthia and John Mitsos and was a lifelong resident of New Castle and Neshannock Township. He attended New Castle High School and graduated in 1950. Chris then attended Penn State University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi social fraternity and graduated in 1954. Upon graduation from Penn State, he joined the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty in Korea. After military service, Chris continued his education at the University of Richmond where he earned his LLB law degree in June 1960 and in December of that year, started practicing law in New Castle as a named partner in the firm Braham, Berry, Cobau and Mitsos, Attorneys at Law. He practiced law for fifty- one years and retired in 2011 as a senior partner with the firm Balph, Nichols, Mitsos, Flannery and Clark, where he had specialized in trust and estate planning. He was an active member of the Lawrence County Bar Association.
During his years of practice in New Castle, Chris was very active in serving the community by becoming a member of the Board of Directors of Jameson Hospital for several years and then selected as Chairman in 1978. He also served on several additional New Castle company boards of directors. He was a member of the Lawrence Club of New Castle as well as the New Castle Country Club and became the co-owner of the local MP Coney Island Restaurant, the family enterprise that was established in 1923 by his father and his father's business partner, George Papazickos, for many years. He and his family were also members of the New Castle St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
Chris was an avid golfer as well as a devoted Penn State football fan who frequently traveled to the Penn State campus on Saturdays with friends, to watch a game in the school's beloved 106,500 seat Beaver Stadium.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Alice Gianakos, and brothers-in law George Gianakos and Ronald Smilek. He is survived by his loving wife Niki (nee Manos) Mitsos, whom he married in 1963. He is also survived by his son, John, daughter-in-law Nancy, and grandson Christopher, all of Yardley, PA, daughter Jennifer Covey, son-in-law Frank Michael Covey III, granddaughter Lexi Covey, and grandson Frank Michael Covey IV, all of Arlington Heights, IL, and sister-in-law Marie Smilek. Also surviving, are nieces Cynthia Oates, Elizabeth Gianakos and nephew Dr. Dean Gianakos.
Visitation hours for Chris are from 4:00 PM to 7:00PM on Wednesday, September 11, at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA 16105. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the funeral service on Thursday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 315 W. Englewood Ave., New Castle, PA 16105, at 11:00 AM. Entombment will be at Castleview Memorial Gardens, Wilmington Road, immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church or to the American Diabetes Association.

Harry Flannery Family life long memories Chris was always part of our lives. Our deepest sympathy to the family. Back in the earlys 1970s Chris and Glen McCracken prior to the merger in the firm where Chris retired offered me an attorney position...those were the days! Coney Island was the family business where I would meet up with him on accassion...noone nicer GOD BLESS
