It is with great sorrow that the family of Paul Lawrence Erway announces his passing from earthly life on Friday, May 23, 2025 at U. of L. Health – Jewish Hospital in Louisville following an illness. A native of Coudersport, PA, Paul was the son of the late Dorothy Buck Erway and Eugene Erway. He graduated from Morrisville State College in Morrisville, NY with a bachelor's degree in horse husbandry. He then attended Penn State University. Following a spinal cord injury, Paul became very interested in products to assist those with special needs. He worked in the area of sales of rehabilitation products, specializing in accessible vans to increase mobility. He was a wheelchair athlete, participating twice in the Boston Marathon, one marathon in Japan and also completed 50 marathons in 52 weeks one year. He also authored two books about his marathon experiences. Paul loved animals, particularly horses. He and his wife, Barbara, have been canine parents to some 80 dogs over the years. Together, they enjoyed visiting rehab hospital patients and nursing home residents with their three therapy dogs – Ebony, Spot and Shortie – who never failed to bring out smiles and feelings of joy to everyone's day. His disability was never his defeat. He continued his path of loving, caring and giving throughout his lifetime. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Barbara Anne Fasnacht Erway of Shelbyville; seven siblings, Dana Erway (Ginger) of Casa Grande, AZ, David Erway (Kathy) of Coudersport, PA, Edward "Ed" Erway (Mary) of Lexington, Peggy Wilkinson (Jim) of Lexington, Steven "Steve" Erway (Brenda) of Coudersport, PA, Michael "Mike" Erway (Melissa) of Parrish, FL and Christine "Christy" Phillips (Robert "Bob") of Elsah, IL; 21 nieces and nephews and his beloved canine companions, Robbie, Dickens, Baxter and Lucy. Also mourning Paul's passing are Margaret, Bill, Tim and Pat Fasnacht, all of Lancaster, PA. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home. Private funeral services and burial of the cremated remains will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025 in Pennsylvania. Anyone wishing to honor Paul's memory may send donations to the Frazier Rehab Institute at the following link: give.uoflhealthfoundation.org/in-memory/in-memory-erway OR W.A.G.'s (Wonderful Animals Giving Support) at kywags.org.
