Vivian Christine Tavernia, affectionately known as Chris, was born on February 29, 1960, in Brownfield, Texas. She passed away peacefully on October 7, 2024, in Shelby, North Carolina, surrounded by the love of her family.

Chris was married to Mark Tavernia for 48 wonderful years, and together they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, finding joy in her husband, children, grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. Chris is survived by her beloved children, Teri Bridges and Crystal Tavernia. She was known as "Dadaw" to her grandchildren Julia Bagbey, Luke Stephens, Austin Tavernia, Dalton Bagbey, Roxi Tavernia, and a great granddaughter, Carter Bagbey. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary-Sue Tavernia. Her parents, Tom Earley and Joan Searcy (White) and her beloved in-laws, Donald and Theresa Tavernia. Chris is also survived by her siblings, Anne Arrowood, Tommie Earley, Jody Earley, Billy Joe Earley and a special aunt, Barbara Mainville.

An avid crocheter, Chris found peace and creativity in her craft. She had a deep love for the beach, where she enjoyed collecting seashells. A dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys, she loved sharing her enthusiasm for the team with anyone who would listen. Chris also enjoyed watching her favorite television show, The Golden Girls, often finding laughter and comfort in its timeless episodes. A devout Catholic, Chris's faith was a guiding force in her life, shaping her values and her relationships. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 11th, at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by The Very Reverend Fr. Herbert Burke, V.F. and assisted by Deacon Andy Cilone. Entombment will follow at the Rutherford County Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends in the Church Narthex one hour prior to service time.
