Christina I. Gruner, a longtime Middletown resident, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home in Pompano Beach, FL on April 7, 2025. She was 80 years old.
The daughter of the late James Wright and Christine Catizone Wright, she was born on January 5, 1945 in Middletown, NY. Christina attended Middletown schools and was a graduate of MHS. She married Carman George Gruner on September 30,1989 in Middletown. George and Christina spent many years living between New York and Florida until they moved to Pompano Beach very recently.
In addition to her devoted husband George at home, she is survived by her children, Leo Knapp and his wife Kimberly of Chattanooga, TN, daughters Shannon Howard and her husband James of Otisville, and Diane LoFrese and her husband Michael of Middletown, brother, James Wright and his wife Kathleen of Bloomingburg, and sister Judith Quick and her husband William of Middletown. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Steven Knapp and his wife Alyssa, Ashley Coohill and her husband Shamus, Amber Roe and her husband Andrew, Arielle Knapp, Calli Reed, Amy LoFrese, Emma Hummel, Andrew Knapp, and James Howard, Jr and great-grandchildren, Wolfgang, Emerald, Oskar, Luther, Shamus, Declan and Jack as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and her dear friend Geraldine Niblock.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Richard Wright.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 16th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on April 16th at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, April 17th at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Wallkill Cemetery.
