Christine Miakisz Godwin, aged 75, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025. Born on December 21, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY, Christine was a beloved mother, nana, and sister, whose warmth and spirit touched all who knew her.
Christine spent over a decade working for Eastern National at the Bodie Island Lighthouse, where she shared her love for the ocean and history with countless visitors. She also dedicated several years to Jenette's Pier in Nags Head.
A devout Catholic, Christine was an active member of her church community, finding solace and strength in her faith. She was a longtime resident of Brooklyn, NY, later moving to Kill Devil Hills, before settling in Manteo, NC, where she spent her final years.
Christine found immense joy in sailing, spending many cherished years aboard a sailboat, exploring the vastness of the ocean that she so dearly loved. Her life was a testament to her adventurous spirit and deep appreciation for nature's beauty.
Preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Josephine Miakisz, Christine leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her daughter, Katie Basnight, and her husband, Zack, of Manteo, NC; her two grandchildren, Hadley and Brooks Basnight; and her brother, John Miakisz, also of Manteo, NC.
Christine was a wonderful mother and Nana, whose love and guidance will be profoundly missed by her family. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and passion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A memorial service to honor Christine's life will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity by the Sea in Nags Head, NC. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who will be dearly missed.
