Christine Marie Hughes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away from this life on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the age of 58. Christine was born in Washington, Missouri on July 10, 1964, the daughter of Al Ruether and Jo Ann (Mowrey) Ruether. She attended school in Missouri, graduating from Washington High School. Later, she received an Associate's degree in Marketing.
Christine taught English as a second language for Moore Public Schools, a career she thrived in and wholly enjoyed. Before becoming an educator, she worked briefly in car sales, as well as working as a first responder as a paramedic and 9-11 dispatcher. Christine was authentically herself in every situation - loud, bold, and spontaneous. She was never afraid to speak her mind, and you never had to guess where she stood on any of the issues. She was a kind, loving, and caring person with a generous heart, and a hard worker and a wonderful homemaker who always provided well for her family. Visitors always felt welcome at Christine's house, and she always ensured her loved ones were comfortable, happy, and well fed when they came to visit.
Christine enjoyed bargain shopping and loved searching for the next great garage sale. She was crafty and creative and loved making costume jewelry and enjoyed adding new sewing thimbles to her ever-growing collection. Christine loved spending time at home with her husband, and she also loved a night out on the town, especially when they were going to play Bingo or when Charles took her to dinner at Red Lobster. Above all, she was devoted to her family, and she adored family get-togethers, especially around the holidays. Christine was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, Maw-Maw, and friend. Her zest for life, her strong voice, and her genuine love for others were such a positive influence on many, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 18 years, Charles Hughes, of the home; her five children, Marissa Finley and husband Austin of Noble, OK, Maegan Hughes and husband Andrew of Enid, OK, Waylin Schiwart and wife Sheridan of McLoud, OK, William Schiwart of Oklahoma City, and Walker Schiwart and wife Brooke of Little Axe, OK; her parents, Al and Jo Ann Ruether of Dutzow, MO; two brothers, Gregg Cooper of Marthasville, MO, and Mario Cooper at St. Charles, MO, and three sisters, Vicki Langford of Dutzow, MO, Danielle Eichmeyer of Marthasville, MO, and Amy Grote of Bowling Green, MO.
Christine is also survived by nine grandchildren, her mother-in-law, Peggy Carney of Eufaula, OK, and many more loving family members and friends.
