Jerome Anderson of Moore Oklahoma Passed away quietly from this world while being surrounded by his family on March 23, 2024, at the age of 84. He was born to Bernadette and Jerome Anderson Sr., on Feb 15, 1940, in Washington, PA. He is survived by his sister Cecilla Pareso and her husband Frank, his brother JD Anderson and wife Sharon, his daughter Cathy Moudy and her husband Jim, Dennis Anderson and his wife Melinda, and a bonus daughter, Debbye Scroggins. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Amber Kelley, Brandon Holsapple, Ian Moudy, Devin Anderson, Keldon Anderson, and a bonus grandchild, Karis Scroggins; 7 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Holsapple, Ethan Kelley, Brooklyn Holsapple, Bently Anderson, Harper Kelley, Paityn Anderson, Shane Anderson.
He graduated Class of 1958 from Washington High School. On Oct 13, 1958, he joined the Army Reserves and then separated from them on Nov 24, 1959. He then enlisted in the Coast Guard on November 25, 1959 until he retired on July 20, 1982 as a Master Chief.
He married Donna Lee Cwik on December 29, 1958 and they traveled together serving assignments around the United States for over 20 years.
After he retired from the military he was employed as a manager for Denny's restaurants for 19 years and then finished his management career for Goldie's Restaurant where he retired again in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Anderson, his wife Donna Anderson, his mother Bernadette Anderson, and father Jerome Anderson Sr.
Jerry was an avid animal lover as he always had a dog by his side. He once told me he wanted to make sure if a dog needed a home, he gave them one. He had a huge passion for Pigeons. He briefly raised them as a teenager and after the military, he started building coups, filling them with pigeons. He has raised Capuchins, Indian Fantails, and Frill backs. He was involved in every aspect of pigeons, from showing them to judging them to teaching and encouraging young kids to be involved in the raising of pigeons. Just recently he gifted his winning Frill back pair to a young girl at a show in Kansas. He was so excited at the thought of her being able to show them. He was also a member of multiple pigeon clubs and the National Pigeon Association.
Jerry loved being obnoxious to his friends, from harassing them about their sports team to telling them how to drive and which roads they had to drive on. He would go out of his way to clip articles from the newspaper and mail them out. Saying "look how your Lakers are doing!" usually only when they were losing!
Now let's talk OPINIONS! Whether you wanted it or not he would give it to you! Usually in a harassing way - Which car to buy, which washer to buy, which route was the best to drive and so on. He would tell us DO NOT go on the highway! I'm sure everyone has a story they could share about him. When his son and daughter would come to visit, Jerry would make a "Girl" list for his daughter to do and a "Boy" list for his son, even though his daughter was more than capable of doing the things on the "boy" list. I'm certain he did it just to be ornery.
A little-known fact about Jerry is that he loved British movies, as well as Soul and R&B music. Jerry loved cooking and was always making desserts for the ladies at the Post office, the people at Habitat for Humanity, and several of his neighbors. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture. I cannot tell you how many rocking chairs I have seen pass thru his house.
I know we will all miss the time we got to spend with him. Dennis and Cathy spoke on the phone with him every single day. I know there are several people here today that he spoke to daily also. He had so many people who loved and cared for him. We will all miss the dinner and lunch dates at his favorite spots and then off to walk it off at Habitat for Humanity.
We will all remember him as a very generous man who never met a stranger. As we celebrate his life today, I know everyone is thinking of all the great moments they have shared with him.
