Christopher Allen Bates, 53, of Buffalo, Missouri, passed from this life May 24, 2025, with family by his side. He was born January 14, 1972, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Richard A. Bates and Pamela K. (Pruitt) Wood.
Chris graduated from Parkview High School in Springfield. He served proudly and honorably in the United States Air Force for just over eight years. Five of those years were spent overseas, in Kuwait and in Italy. After returning home, Chris was active with the VFW and American Legion. In spare time, Chris enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed making everyone laugh.
He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Bates. Chris is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Scott) Bates; two sons, Tyler Bates and Justin Bates; step-daughter, Brenna Hart and husband, Will; step-son, Dalton Taylor and wife, Halina; grandchildren, Emberlyn Hart and Ezra Taylor; his mother, Pamela Wood and step-father, Robert Wood; brothers, David Bates, Tony Trujullo, Gabriel Diggs, and Samuel Diggs; sister, Anne Benson; extended family and many friends. Chris will be missed by us all.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, 2001 W. Walnut Lawn St., in Springfield. A committal service with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road, in Springfield.

Care has been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd. DeGraffenreid-Wood Crematory.
