Christopher (Chris) Hans Bowen, 61, of Council Grove, passed away peacefully Friday, April 4, 2025, in the comfort of his own home surrounded by loved ones. Chris was born September 14, 1963 to Charles and Darlene (Baumann) Bowen in Wamego, Kansas. He spent the first years of his life growing up in Eskridge, Kansas before moving to Council Grove in 1969, where he remained until his death.
Chris was a beloved father, grandfather, son, and brother. Before his health declined, he enjoyed spending time outdoors with hobbies including mushroom hunting, fishing, and hunting. Chris enjoyed taking many annual trips to Norton, Kansas to hunt pheasant alongside his brothers and other relatives. He especially enjoyed these trips more when his only son was old enough to go. Chris also enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, and KU basketball. Perhaps his most treasured pastime was watching his children and grandchildren in their many activities.
Chris was known for his friendly personality. He was also very comical with a touch of ornery, and would always leave you with a smile.
He was married to Mona Bowen on June 8, 1991. Of this union came three of Chris’ greatest blessings: Shelby, Kyle, and Emilee.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Darlene (Baumann) Bowen; father, Charles Bowen; brother Anthony (Tony) Bowen; and infant sister Tamara Bowen.
Chris is survived by his daughter, Shelby Stohs (Johnathan) of Council Grove, son Kyle Bowen (Heather Theurer) of Council Grove, daughter, Emilee Hager of Abilene; grandchildren, Easton, Bennett, Halen, Declan, Ava, Paisley, and Oakley; his brother Marc Bowen (Becky); sister, Paula Ross; brother, Kenny Bowen; sister Laurie Kohler (Wayne) ; sister, Dawn Wecker; sister Jennifer Steere-Offermann (Roger) ; sister, Kathy Morris; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and several cherished cousins.
A service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at St. Rose of Lima Parish Hall in Council Grove with Father Andrew Seiler officiating. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chris Bowen Memorial Fund. They may be sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
