It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christopher Barclay Jordan, 47, Sunday morning in New Orleans. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and a cherished friend to many. Christopher's passion for life was contagious. His love language was food and it was a gift he joyfully shared with, and taught to, his two beloved sons, James (11) and Sean (7), who simply adored him.
Born in Anaheim, California, Christopher had a remarkable globe-travelling career in hospitality, spanning over 23 years, with 17 years dedicated to Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. His Four Seasons journey took him and his family to eight locations across six countries and three continents. A proud graduate of The Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, where he studied Baking and Pastry, Christopher's culinary excellence set the stage for his inspiring career.
He began his Four Seasons tenure in 2008 as Executive Pastry Chef at Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis, followed by roles at Four Seasons Hotel Denver and Four Seasons Hotel Doha. In Doha, he transitioned from the culinary arts to service, quickly rising to Director of Restaurants. His international assignments continued with Four Seasons Hotel Beirut and later Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh at Kingdom Centre, where he was noted for his calm leadership through challenging times.
In 2020, Christopher and his family made New Orleans their home as he helped launch the new Four Seasons Hotel New Orleans as Director of Food & Beverage. In 2021, he was honored with a place on the prestigious Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts Food and Beverage Council, was a member of Skål International New Orleans and served as a Board Member of the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience. His promotion to Hotel Manager in 2022 was a testament to his unwavering commitment to the Golden Rule, talent, and leadership.
Second only to his love for his family, Christopher was most passionate about food, presentation, and quality service. He used his love of food to make memories through teaching his sons French culinary terms, baking bread to share with friends, and cooking crêpes to order at family gatherings. He taught the importance of mise en place and the joy of baking from scratch. Summers were filled with buzz cuts and adventures, like fishing on Huntington Lake, dancing along to Michael Jackson in Istanbul, or filling food passports on a spirited foodie tour through Palermo. Christopher's love for life's simpler moments a delicious meal, a quiet morning fishing, a well-crafted cocktail and a kitchen filled with laughter will be forever cherished.
Christopher loved scouring New Orleans estate sales for mortars and pestles, just "one more" cookbook, or any other treasures that caught his eye. He was deeply devoted to his family, sharing his love and lessons with every meal cooked, every loaf of bread baked, every adventure taken, and every story told.
Christopher is survived by his loving wife, Erin (McGinn) Jordan; his beloved sons, James and Sean; his mother, Paula Stephens; his father, Dennis Jordan, and his stepmother, Marta Calvo; his brothers, Damien Jordan and Kyle Stephens; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends - all of whom he loved and who loved him deeply.
We love you. All the time.
