CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP-Christopher Meiss, age 56, of Harvey, passed away at home on May 10, 2025.
Born on January 1, 1969 in Munising, the son of Steven and Margaret (Goss) Meiss. Christopher spent his early years there before his family moved to Harvey, where he was raised. In 1988, he earned his GED and went on to attend Northern Michigan University for three years, majoring in Psychology and Behavior Technology.
In January of 2001, Christopher married Tonya Lennox, and together they raised their son, Christopher. He also welcomed his stepdaughter, Angel Keck, into his life with warmth and care. Christopher worked in the construction industry for five years and was known for his hardworking and hands-on approach.
A creative and passionate individual, Christopher had a deep love for music. He wrote his own songs and often performed with his guitar at open mic nights. He was a lover of animals and shared a special bond with his dog, Charlie, and his cat, Betty. With a quick wit and strong sense of humor, he made those around him laugh. He was also deeply interested in politics and always enjoyed a good discussion.
Christopher is survived by his father, Steven Meiss of Evanston, Illinois; his son, Christopher Meiss of Marquette; stepdaughter, Angel Keck of Muskegon, Michigan; and granddaughter, Abigail Meiss of Marquette. He is also survived by his aunts, Betsy (Frank) Trumble of Iron Mountain and Barbara Fishman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and his uncle, Christopher Goss of Deerton, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Meiss; his wife, Tonya; and his uncle, Mark Meiss.
Honoring Christopher's request, no public services will be held. The Canale Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services is serving the family where condolences may be expressed online at canalefuneral.com
