William Christopher "Chris" Rice, 52, of West Lampeter, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 28, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Amy A. (Miller) Rice, with whom he shared 23 years of marriage.
Born in Lancaster and raised in Elizabethtown, he was the son of Ralph William Rice, Jr., of Lancaster, and the late Carole June (Epler) Rice.
Chris was a 1991 graduate of Elizabethtown High School. He earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from Lock Haven University in 1995. After graduation, Chris worked as an adult and juvenile probation officer in York County. He then went on to be employed by PPL for over 20 years, most recently as a Work Management Scheduler.
First and foremost, and evidenced by the life he led, Chris was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. During his seven-year battle with cancer, he would regularly share his testimony of God's goodness and grace. He was also a loving and devoted husband and father who cherished every moment with his family. Chris found much joy in cooking foods that delighted his family and he supported his daughters in all of their activities. Chris was also a devoted and cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend known for his compassion and humor. He was a faithful member of Grace Community Church of Willow Street, where he had served on the church council and made lasting friendships and offered encouragement through their cancer support group and men's group. In Chris's spare time, he cheered on the Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State wrestling and football teams with great enthusiasm.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by his daughters, Drea and Lia Rice, of West Lampeter; his sisters, Julie (Terry) DeGroot, of Nazareth, PA, Jennifer (Kent) Wineinger, of Fredericksburg, VA, and Jo-Elle (Deen) Daveler, of West Lampeter; 4 nieces, 6 nephews, and 2 great-nephews.
Chris will best be remembered as a man of God who lived his life as a faithful testimony of God's love. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of compassion, Godliness, and humor will live on in all who had the honor of knowing him.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 5, at Grace Community Church of Willow Street, 212 Peach Bottom Road, Willow Street, PA 17584, with a time of viewing from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM. Interment will take place at Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery at 2:30 PM.
